Update: 17 October 2024

We are aware that SARS is in the process of changing their submission platform, which will be used from the 2025 filing period.

Rest assured that SimplePay will ensure that all filing documentation and tax certificate export files generated on our system are ready for this changeover.

Please note that there is still enough time to submit your filing documents before the deadline of 31 October 2024. We also recommend that you check the status of your submission, to ensure that you have filed correctly.

It’s that time of the year again! The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that the Employer Interim Reconciliation filing season will run from 16 September to 31 October 2024.

What is the Interim Filing Season All About?

During the Employer Interim Reconciliation filing season, SARS requires employers to submit an accurate reconciliation declaration (EMP501) for the six-month period from 1 March to 31 August 2024. These reconciliations are based on all Monthly Employer Declarations (EMP201s) submitted, and payments made to SARS, as well as Interim Employee Income Tax Certificates (IRP5s/IT3(a)s) where applicable.

How Can You Stay Compliant?

Filing season can be a stressful time – you need to ensure that you are compliant and that your submissions are accurate. SimplePay takes compliance very seriously, which is why our software automatically generates the necessary tax certificates and reports for you. These filing documents comply with the latest SARS reporting requirements so that you don’t have to worry about them.

Additionally, we are in continuous contact with SARS and other related groups, such as the Payroll Authors Group of South Africa (PAGSA), to ensure that we are kept up to date with any changes in compliance requirements.

Which Platform Should You Use?

If you have fewer than 50 employees, you can complete the filing process using either eFiling or e@syFile. Should you have more than 50 employees, SARS stipulates that you are required to use e@syFile. You can read more about e@syFile here, and about eFiling here. More information about the reconciliation process, and how this can be done on SimplePay, can be found on our help page here.
